ECHO/OHCE DIGI-TRIBE

mirrored reflections...

5 days before social distancing was enforced, a large scale, interactive head sculpture appeared at the foot of the Grampians in Victoria. The project was commissioned by Pitch Festival after experiencing ECHO. OHCE, Echo backwards, is a mirrored iteration of the original work. While touring Europe, the faces of 30,000 participants, who experienced the work, were collected. Georgie has edited these images into a rich body of interactive animated and sound work, with a continual focus on connecting strangers through immersive technology and storytelling.

Georgie was awarded the hero commission at The World Science Festival 2022 and was able to create a lightweight aluminium 7 metre face mask sculpture for the audience to interact with. The mask was projection mapped, creating a 7 metre 3D light sculpture that could be seen from many parts of the Brisbane city, immersing the audience in the work and offering new tools for creative expression. The work looks at the relationship between man and machine and elevates the representation of the everyday person, telling real stories in public space. It also blurs the line between artist and audience as the audience are able to incorporate their own face and identity to the work.
